Friday

feeling fruity?

I just finished up this work for the shop at Oregon College of Art and Craft! Look for it early next week!

Tuesday

question: will you marry me? answer: woof!

Here's a few of the custom dog wedding cake toppers that have come across my workbench this year:

Hey--don't forget we're having a little contest right now and the winner gets a free custom wedding cake topper! We have only had one entry so far so if you're a currently engaged couple, send me your story! Details: Click here for details!

Wednesday

last day to enter the dog contest!

It's been a year since I made my first stop action movie For the Love of Dog. This year my goal is to make a 26-part stop action alphabet movie with corresponding book! We'll see if I can make it happen, but it's an exciting prospect and I've been making lists of my favorite words and using this book for inspiration.

Speaking of dogs, it's the last day to enter the dog-a-licious contest over at Jill Heupel Photography! Entering is soooooo easy, it will leave you plenty of time to read this and show some love to your real dog (or cat.)

These original pieces will be available this weekend at Crafty Wonderland! Get 'em while they're hot!

See you this weekend!
P.S. Anything I don't sell will eventually be posted on my Etsy site.

Sunday

tribute to a good dog

I recently made this sweet little commission for a customer who saw my "Best Dog in the World" piece on Etsy. She asked me to do a version that had a custom dog on top that looks just like their dearly departed pooch, who in their eyes, was the Best Dog in the World. I think it's a great way to remember the furry friends who make life just a little bit more awesome.

One new aspect to this piece is the patterning I did in the land masses on the globe. For some reason, the plain green in the original wasn't working for me, and I've recently had a lot of fun painting grass on the bases of some of my new wedding cake toppers:

simple touches to customize your favorite piece

here's a cute commission I did last week, adding a heart balloon to a customer's custom pet commission:

and then one of the doggies who starred in my For the Love of Dog video was bought and the customer asked to have a yellow birdie added to its back. Super cute!

Sunday

all the bunnies and Ron wish Erika would get better soon.

This is starting to feel a lot like dedicating a song to the one you love on the radio! Love it!!! Click here to download your free all purpose sentimental card, color it in, write a message on it, and I'll post it on the blog for you.

Monday

pumpkin-loving westies, baby-loving schnauzers, and a jackadoodle.

I have done a few custom dog orders recently that I'm excited to share. First, a customer who saw a piece in my Etsy shop that involved a cat in a pumpkin patch, though it would be perfect if one of her three cute West Highland White Terriers was there instead. I happily obliged. (Boy, Westies sure are cute!)

Next: another customer saw my New Kid in Town set, and wanted to give it to her friend with a gray Schnauzer gazing longingly at the baby. A few color adjustments on the baby, and here's the finished piece:

Last, I had a request to make a jackadoodle like this cute little sweetie. Since the hair is so wispy, we decided to make it look more like the original by replicating its brown collar with pink polka dots.

Friday

get your fall on!

I don't know about you, but this is the first week I finally admitted that fall is here. What better time to embrace the season through decorative objects!! I have now added all of my new Halloween and/or Day of the Dead designs to the Bunny with a Toolbelt Etsy shop. Here's a few sneak previews, or click here to go directly to the store. Many of these pieces are one of a kind, so get 'em while they're still here!

Thursday

how to cope with the cruel "no dogs allowed" rule

This set was ordered as a surprise for a couple--they were thrilled when the cake came out because their beloved pooches weren't allowed at the wedding venue. These custom topper set made it feel like they were there in spirit. Awwwwww! Images below walk you through the steps in this commission. Enjoy!

Thanks so much to the customer who sent me the picture of the pieces on the cake she made. I love to hear the end of the story that I played a little part of.

Here's a few things I whipped up this summer while getting ready for the Neighborhood Birds show. Enjoy!

Thursday

A dog for a special 3 year old

I had a special request to make a birthday dog for the top of a birthday cake recently. The family's dog is a German Shorthair, a breed I'm quite familiar with, since it's one of the ingredients in the recipe for my own dear little mutt. And, as you might recall in a recent blog entry, a recent challenge when I made a replica of our dog for my sweetie on valentine's day. Here's the final piece, which was sent off in the mail today.

Monday

what a bunny gives her special somebunny

Hey Beautiful Person! Thought I'd show you the valentine present I made for my sweetie--a little model of our dog with his favorite accessory, a big orange ball. (He's a mix between a Dachshund and a German Shorthaired Terrier, for all you curious dog lovers out there...) I chose to represent his unusual merle pattern with a series of tiny flocked white spots in all the right places. Although I've worked from images for many special orders, it was great to have a live model around. Hope you had a good one!!

Tuesday

Fabulously Furry Wedding Cake Toppers!

Have you ever heard the argument from the radical right that if they let gays and lesbians marry, then you it just opens the door for anyone to marry anything? Well, that door has swung wide with my new critter-friendly wedding cake toppers.
